JFCS Educational Loans and Grants

  • JFCS helps hundreds of Jewish students every year achieve their educational and vocational goals by providing them with loans and grants. This assistance is intended to offset the expense of college, graduate or vocational school, and other accredited programs.

    Eligible undergraduate and graduate students may apply for financial aid annually to defray their educational and vocational training costs. All qualified students will be considered for both loans and grants. Our undergraduate grants range from $500 to $3,000, and our subsidized loans range from $1,000 to $6,000 with low-interest rates and favorable repayment terms. Kurtz Scholarship

  • The Kurtz scholarship applies to any Jewish Studies major or minor, or any student who has completed or is in the process of completing 6 units in Jewish Studies enrolled in a Jewish Studies class or classes are eligible to apply.

Linda Mazursky Kurtz & Frank Kurtz Scholarship in memory of Bernard Mazursky

The Kurtz Scholarship will be awarded this Spring 2026. It is open to all students who have taken or are taking at least 6 units in Jewish Studies. The award is $1000. Students must apply through AcademicWorks and only through AcademicWorks.

Frimer First Generation Student Scholarship

  • The Frimer First Generation Student Scholarship is a $5,000 renewable scholarship being awarded to an incoming or current college student seeking a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university who has demonstrated an impact of leadership, entrepreneurship, and/or volunteerism in their local or campus community. To qualify as a first-generation student, the applicant’s parents/guardians must not have completed a four-year college or university degree. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must self-identify as Jewish. Previous attendance at Hillel events is NOT a requirement for this scholarship.​

Behrman Campus Leadership Award

  • The Behrman Campus Leadership Award is a $5,000 renewable scholarship being awarded to two full-time students seeking a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university who demonstrate extraordinary leadership abilities and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants must self-identify as Jewish and commit to attending at least one Hillel event in the upcoming school year. Previous attendance at Hillel events is NOT a requirement for this scholarship. (Renewable for up to two additional school years, in addition to the first year. Not renewable after the third school year/payment, or the student’s completion of an undergraduate degree, whichever comes first.

The Tanette Goldberg Memorial Scholarship for Social Justice

  • The Tanette Goldberg Memorial Scholarship for Social Justice was established in memory of Tanette Goldberg (1926-2013), Past President of NCJW SF from 1990 to 1993. Tanette was recognized for her work in 2007 when she received the NCJW Hannah G. Solomon Award.

  • Tanette was a tireless and committed community volunteer who fervently believed in justice, equality, and affecting positive change. She worked to solve issues in her neighborhood and in the larger Jewish community, including work with the Jewish Community Relations Council and supporting her husband in his decades-long involvement with Hebrew Free Loan. This scholarship is for Jewish women living in the Bay Area who are interested in social justice and are pursuing higher education.

Hillel International Scholarships

  • Get money for college! Hillel International scholarships are for students who identify as Jewish, in the U.S. and Canada, who are attending or preparing to attend four-year colleges and universities or graduate school.
